Tomar – Convent of Christ

A day trip to this wonderful UNESCO world heritage site – 20th January 2020.

Surrounded by castle walls, the “Convent of the Knights Templar of Tomar” was built over a period of 5 centuries and sits in a hilltop position overlooking the town below.

When you see the intricacy of the stonework, the detailed art and decorations inside this incredible place, you’ll see why it took so long to build. Not only that but the complex is massive.

The crowning glory is the 16-sided chapel, it’s simply stunning inside and out.

We visited here on the way back from Nazaré, so it was a full day out exploring two very different sites.

It’s well worth a trip!
